Is Ball Pen Oil Toxic?
- Jan 19, 2019 -

Oily ballpoint pen is the first product of ballpoint pen series. It has been more than 60 years since it was put on the market in batches. After long-term improvement and improvement, the production technology of oil ballpoint pen is mature, the product has stable performance, long shelf life and stable writing performance. It has become a traditional product of ballpoint pen products. The ink viscosity of oil ballpoint pen is high, so the writing feel is relatively heavy.

The pigment of ballpoint pen ink is dye. Ink colors are mainly blue, red and black, of which blue ink is the most widely used. In the past, the pigments in blue ink were salt-based pink blue and salt-based blue lotus, and the solvents were oxidation of castor oil and castor oleic acid. Because the salt-based dyes are not light-resistant (light resistance is only grade 1-2), heat-resistant, acid-alkali-resistant, so the durability is poor, has been eliminated. At present, "424" blue ballpoint pen and "322" black ballpoint pen are sold on the market, and their handwriting durability is good.

There are many reports about the toxicity of fragrant ballpoint pens. The volatile organic compounds contained in inferior fragrant stationery are toxic and harmful to human body, but we haven't heard of the poisoning of oil ballpoint pens which are not mixed with volatile organic compounds in normal use.

But "normal use" does not mean "try to eat" (fortunately, it is not eaten in the stomach upstairs). Although the main ingredients of ink are salt-based pink blue and salt-based green lotus, the solvent is oxidized castor oil, castor oil acid) and sticky substances, it will not feel good to drink them.
